Twitter – Where The Hell Am I?

I have been missing in Twitter’s search and directory for several weeks now.

I’ve embraced Twitter to an incredible extent and it’s become my main vehicle for communications and organization. I’ve made Twitter the main place to find ‘me’, it’s easy to link to all other websites, and even easier to search… This is where I not only love communicating with many others – it’s where I find myself – links, thoughts, photographs, videos, etc. I can’t find any of this content in Twitter search.

I now do see @replies to me and DM’s. Twitter is feeling more like an instant messenger than a collaborative environment.

Those who have enjoyed my Twitter  presentations know I often refer to our loved network as ‘the hammer’ in that we can extract information in addition to driving home ideas. Well, that part isn’t working effectively for me (about me) anymore. I can search everyone else – that’s cool, however the basic from:williger will NOT come up.

I promote creative uses of Twitter, one of which being an incredible organizational system. Where’s all my data? By sharing photos, videos, even web links through Twitter – it became my search engine. Evernote you say? Why bother? I can go to http://search.twitter.com/ and put in from:williger photo sushi and pull up that all important lunch photo – NOT anymore. I can’t even find Darren Williger in search.

I recognize this is a free service and there’s no real support model in place. I’ve tweeted the Twitter employee who helped out last time I had Tweadaches w/o response. I’m not ready to give up, and will try reaching out to her again today.

Perhaps I should reach out to others – I’m defintely feeling unusually passive as I ‘need’ this service that I’m not paying for. Friends have pointed out how they never see my tweets anymore. I understand, as I can’t either. This is frustrating – and searches show me that some others have this issue too, but that Twitter is denying it.

I can take screen shots, but I don’t need to – Just search for any tweet from:williger in Twitter search or look for me in the directory – I don’t exist. This is impacting my @williger and @darrenwilliger accounts. I’m going to try reaching out to support again – though not super optimistic on help from this free service.I count on my free services running! Where are all my tweets? This isn’t cool. Am I being singled out? Before you think I’ve totally lost my mind – try searching for me on Twitter… Where am I?

On a positive note, I’ve reacquainted myself with Evernote. I’ll be back to tweeting soon too, however I’m going to have some backup measures in place as well. This is the 3rd major service interruption I’ve experienced with Twitter.I’m grateful for the free services they provide. I don’t complain much, and sure I would be a lot louder if this were for a client or something. I want this resolved as it’s been 2 months. I feel like a turtle on his back here – recognizing that it’s a free service that many millions are enjoying without this problem. Maybe I’ll just start using my @darrenjwilliger account or something…

I miss everyone – I’ll be Tweeting it up soon whether this is working or not.

  • This might help you understand Twitter's short comings w/ cashing files. http://help.twitter.com/forums/31935/entries/68759 effects search.

Search engine powered by tweets http://topsy.com/s?q=%40williger also http://topsy.com/twitter/williger

Now I use http://tweetbackup.com/ about every 2 weeks just to make sure.

    Hope this helps.

Oooh, no wonder that you've been missing for 5 days now, i just started tweeting again afer 2-3 weeks hiatus :P . anyways, I can see your recent tweets now :) and hey, i also commented ;)
  • That is strange. I tried it with a few names, and I found the tweets. Then I tried yours. I could see people who retweeted or replied to you; nothing from you. I thought I was the dummy user, since people do not reply. Hope they explain and resolve it for you.
