The Basics of Cigar Smoking.
When anyone first begins to smoke cigars there are a few things they usually need to be told. Since things like lighting a cigar is not the same as lighting a cigarette and taking a drag from a cigar differs also. Then there are the ashes that you keep, unlike on a cigarette that you want to be constantly getting rid of. Here are a few steps and tips so you are familiar with how to smoke and even enjoy a cigar. Because oddly enough there is a proper way to enjoy a cigar
- Lighting a cigar can be a little trickier and take a little longer than lighting a cigarette. You have to light it properly to be able to smoke it properly and get the full flavor. Using a cigar clipper, clip the edge off the end of the cigar. The rounded or pointed end, depending on the cigar. Once clipped, light with a torch lighter, not a regular cigarette lighter. These produce a nasty smell due to the lighter fluid and the fact they are not meant to be on for so long. A torch lighter will stay lit and give you enough time to light your cigar. When you’re lighting the cigar you will want to take puffs on the cigar, but also turn the cigar in your mouth at the same time. This produces an even area that has been lit so that the cigar does not burn unevenly, like down the center or down one side. This happening can ruin a very good cigar and once it starts to happen it is very hard to stop.
- While smoking the cigar is becoming shorter and you may be wondering when to put it out. This depends on the cigar itself. There are some cigar smokers that always leave two inches left, however that is a lot of cigar that is being wasted possibly and if it has not begun to taste bitter, than go ahead and keep smoking it. How far you smoke your cigar are personal preference and the taste of the cigar itself. If it still tastes good than keep going. Once it has lost its flavor and is bitter or sour, then put it out. The only real problem with smoking all the way down is that you can burn your fingers trying to hold it, if anything that is when you should stop. When you can no longer hold your cigar and/or your fingers are being burned. Now that is definitely no longer enjoyable to smoke.
- The ashes can be a touchy subject with some cigar smokers. Some swear you have to keep the ashes going to really enjoy the flavor, while others will let them fall off in the ashtray. Again, this is more about personal preference than actually rule to the ashes. Try both ways and see which you prefer.
- Relaxing and enjoying a fine cigar is what it is all about. Making sure there is no wind so you can fully smell the aroma and sitting back outside or in a cigar bar and enjoying your cigar is what is all about. So, never let what others say effect you, smoke the cigar in the way that you most enjoy.
Cigar smoking is not difficult and once you have learned these few basic techniques and tips, it will become all the more enjoyable for you. Once you start smoking cigars many of these tips become routine like anything else. So, sit back, relax, and enjoy your cigar.
