Cigars in All Shapes and Sizes.
There are hundreds, maybe even thousands of different types of cigars out there. Trying to figure out which one is best for you or that you would like the flavor of the most can be truly confusing and a time consuming process. Doing the process of elimination works, however you may find more cigars you do not like, before you find the cigars that you do like. However, there are few things you should know about cigars first that may help you decide which cigar is right for you.
First, there are two main categories that are very broad, but do describe two different types of cigars. They are parejos and figurados. Parejos are cigars that are straight, regardless of the length. This type of cigar is straight and has three categories underneath it. They are coronas, panatelas, and lonsdales. The most common of these three are the coronas; every brand of cigar available out there usually offers a corona. They are usually shorter and fatter than other cigars and have a rounded head. Coronas are smoked by many people because they are not as long as the other two styles and do not take as long to get through. Panatelas are longer coronas, but thinner. They also come in different flavors and strengths. These usually take a little longer to smoke due to the length. The last ones, lonsdales are longer than coronas, but even thinner than panatelas. These ones too come in different strengths and flavors, but take about the same amount of time to smoke.
The other category is figurados. Figurados have an irregular shape; sometimes they are hand rolled and are not straight like parejos. There are three dub-categories under figurados and they come in different flavors and strengths too. The first category is the belicoso cigars. These have a large foot and a small, rounded head. These are pretty small, but necessarily skinny, they can still be a very fat cigar to smoke, but do not usually take too long to get through. Then there is the pyramid figurado cigar. These are literally shaped similar to a pyramid; they have a pointed head and then taper down to a large foot. Pyramid cigars are usually pretty large, they also take a very long time to smoke due to their length and how fat they are. The last one is one of the largest cigars available and may also be known as giant cigars and they are diademas. These are eight inches long or longer and take a long time to smoke because of their length. They come in different circumferences though.
These are some of the basics you should know before buying cigars. However, if you have questions any store owner will actually know quite a bit about cigars and can usually recommend one that you will like by description and personal preferences.
