Nietzsche’s Lacerations

Not a great day today for Nietzsche the Iguana. For many years he has had a beautiful long tail, and now he has been shortened by 18″. He has been fighting with Junior all weekend and today I found him with his tail mostly torn off and bleeding. The tail has completely fallen off now, and he is resting on his heat rock. I’m not sure if he hit his tail against the cage, or lost this to a fight with Junior, or caught up climbing. I just hope he doesn’t get some kind of infection. There are other marks and scrapes on his tail. His vet isn’t open until Monday, so I will watch him this closely this weekend and call then Monday morning.

I still have to clean the cage tonight as there was a lot of blood, and I am sure Nietzsche doesn’t want to wake up tomorrow and see his old tail on the floor.
