Looking For A Podcast Host?
Have you been creating shows and now you want to get them out there for others to see? Or maybe you have not even made your first show yet and you are trying to figure out where to start even. There are a few things you definitely need to know to get your shows out there and get them into people’s hands and players.
You have a show create, maybe many shows. Make sure they are cleaned up and have been re-sized smaller to fit on a user’s computer. You also want to make sure you have everything done on them and that everything that should be there is.
Once you have these shows on your computer, you will need to have a host web site where you can upload and store these episodes. They need to be stored on a host site so that there is a file name connected to them so users can find the episodes.
This requires a domain name for the site location. For a low fee you can register a domain name to store your files. You will then also get a hosting company to host the site and there is a fee for this also. For example, there is www.bluehost.com and many others just like them. The biggest concern will be that they have a large bandwidth and plenty of storage space. Of course too any host should not be too expensive. Podcasts can be large files, so the more storage and bandwidth available the better.
You will now need to make sure that the DNS addresses at your site are the same as the host has provided.
To set a DNS address you will need to go to the domain provider and input the addresses. This will take a few days for the updates to take place.
Now you will go to your hosting site and you will need to use an FTP browser to upload the files. An FTP browser should come with your host plan, but if it does not you can find them online for free. From the FTP browser, log onto your host. You will be uploading a file called dircaster.php. This is coding that will make a feed of the contents in the directory.
Begin uploading your podcasts to this file folder. Make sure all the file information is correct and start the uploads.
You are now ready for your podcasts to be distributed. You can also create an index page to help users see what files you have available. Users will be able to subscribe now to your podcasts and receive any updates whenever you add a new podcast episode.
Initially, there is a lot of file creation and uploading that has to be done to get everything ready so you can begin broadcasting your episodes. However, once all that is done, things are very easy and you will be able to upload regularly with any new podcasts you make. Podcasting is a great way to get you shows out there for many people to see and once set up is very quick, easy, and efficient.
