Learn How to Lighten The Load
Have you seen this show hoarders about people with extreme hoarding issues? It’s a type of OCD and I’d caught the show a while back and added it to my DVR queue and finally started catching up. If I hadn’t, would I have been a hoarders hoarder?
We carry and manage so many different things in our lives and not just physical objects. We have so many thoughts and ideas and processes we collect in our heads which also require intense organization.
With the goal of increased organization to enhance time management and just create a better life experience, I’ve been looking around my home and taking a look where I can remove some things; books, clothes, furniture, objects, etc. Either for charitable donations, selling on eBay, giving away, etc. it’s time to clear up some room and make pathway for more things happening a mile a minute here lately.
What’s your home like? Do you have lots of things collecting like some type of pack rat? Many magazines stacked up to read? Clothes you’ve not worn for years kept for some type of sentimental value? Boxes of things in an attic or garage? Junk mail on your kitchen counter? Today I’m finishing up the last two, the garage of boxes and the paper mail. Maybe I can shred the papers to make room for packing up the garage boxes to put on eBay – hehe who knows. I’ve not created a measured goal so this will be interesting to see how much I can find to rid myself of without a target.
I’ll have to devise some type of goal. What’s your goal?
Sometimes having too much stuff around makes your mind overwhelmed on where to start and where to put everything and creating priorities on items you spend more time managing than enjoying. Don’t get overwhelmed with this, you can focus on starting somewhere with boundaries on when you have to start or finish by.
Main point is this – sometimes our homes are physical manifestations of what’s going on inside us. This may many times be emotional baggage we might be carrying. Anger, depression, financial concerns, relationships, employment can all add to your already heavy load. When you start dealing with these issues you may find it is easier to deal with the other clutter in your life. At the same time you may find getting rid of the physical clutter will help your emotional and mental load.
Start to lighten your load by making a list. What is the number one thing you could do to lighten your load? Next outline the steps you need to take to start reducing the clutter in your life. Break it down into small steps such as cleaning out one closet, not the whole house. Sell off, giveaway or throw out the stuff you no longer need. Have a garage sale or sell off stuff on ebay. Use the money you earn for treating yourself. Make a vow not to keep carrying the same stuff back and forth to the office.
Once lighten your load you will feel like you have more energy, clearer thoughts and a happier outlook on life. You will no longer have to worry about things that have been cluttering your life. You will find you can travel farther in life with a lighter load.
