If you Don’t Want to, You Might Really Need To!

I’d taken an improv class before at Second City, actually for a year it was a blast but not the point of this digression… There was an instructor who, when folks didn’t jump up to try a new technique would point out that if we didn’t want to we probably really needed to. This feeling resonates so strongly with me to this day.

I think of how this relates to so much in life – from fitness to steps towards achieving goals, etc. We really need to keep commitments towards what we’re trying to achieve or it just doesn’t make sense! Maybe it’s because I’m in sales or just a habit of being goal oriented, but when I state a goal, it’s a commitment to me and the world and I think much about them before creating them. It’s one of the reasons I blog and create videos – almost a public statement of “watch me I’m going to keep with this” – it worked for quitting smoking and other goals – in fact what’s the point of goals if they’re not dreams with a deadline? I mean a serious deadline. Don’t get me started on slackers as today is about over-achieving, and how to keep doing so.

Today I woke up thinking WOW it’s September 20th, isn’t it around time I start up the 100 days blog again? Shouldn’t I go do my P90x? OMG I’m obsessing about work already and starting to assemble my days’ thoughts and organizing what I hope to achieve and… YIKES it’s time to workout and consider a 100 day commitment blog. OK Back on track. I’m happy and excited about where I am and where I’m going.

I like P90x in the morning as it’s literally as easy as “just hitting play”. Yesterday I’d not only done my P90x but also a great chest and triceps workout over at the health club. OK digressing again but my point is this – goals are about achieving them, otherwise it’s just wishful thinking. For me I like to really think of how these goals will feel and try them on, almost like a new suit and picture how these goals are going to make my life better and better for those around me.

For the 100 days I’m going to focus personally and professionally on daily continuous improvements. In fact my life is so much different than last year personally as well as professionally and I can only imagine how much more awesome it will be in 2012 and it’s now down to 102 days to make my goals for 2011 reality.

I hope y’all take a step today towards achieving your life dreams. Doing a little something every single day is what gets us to our destination. Or the famous analogy that goes “how do you eat an elephant; a piece at a time” and the same with fitness, career, personal achievements, relationships, etc.

Challenge yourself! I know I am. Today I’ve already been “raising the bar” so to speak, realizing that as I’m able to focus on eating this elephant piece by piece that my appetite is growing and that there’s many delicious elephants out there about to be devoured by Darren. Watch out world, I’m about to eat you up!
