The question is: does caffeine actually enhance a person’s mental alertness and performance or is it all a myth? It sounds like one of those ideas that are to hard to believe but studies have shown that caffeine really improves a persons performance. This performance is not just limited to physical or bodily improvement but also in mental improvement and alertness as well. It’s probably not surprising that caffeine helps to boost energy, if you read the ingredient label on any sports energy drink, you are bound to confirm this. Even professional athletes are known to take drinks which have some form of caffeine content few hours before any competition in order to gain an edge in the game. Sometimes you might be likely to believe that is the sprinters who gain most from having caffeine in their drinks but actually the endurance sports athletes are those who benefit the most. When you think more about it, it also makes more sense. Who needs more energy and caffeine, the fellow running a 100 meter race or the one running the marathon race.

Caffeine is a very strange drug when it comes to migraines. Headaches which are associated with migraines have to be triggered and these triggers come in various forms. Triggers for migraines include various types of foods, weather conditions, lighting and a number of other triggers. One of these many triggers of migraines is the consumption of too much caffeine. However headaches can also be lessened by taking caffeine as well.

When people think of caffeine, the first thing which usually comes to mind is coffee. If you look through the history of coffee you’re bound to find some history of caffeine. Some history of tea may also be found in the history of caffeine as well as the history of the soft drink. Energy drinks also share the history of caffeine. This is probably where the needs of caffeine should count the most as people who need energy most are probably those bound to take caffeinated beverages.

People seldom understand the appeal of the coffee shop. They seldom understand the driving force that guides a person from one coffee shop to the other. Another thing that they fail to understand is why people choose to pay huge amounts of money for coffee that they can easily make when they are at home.

Evidence exists to the fact that caffeine has been used as a stimulant far back into periods of early history. One of the most famous poets of all time Johann Wolfgang von Goethe who is better known as the author of the Faust legend, reportedly gave a young chemist known as Friedrich Ferdinand Runge a number of coffee beans. Runge had been carrying out some chemical analysis on extracts of belladonna and Goethe suggested he do the same with coffee beans. It was from these coffee beans that Runge isolated caffeine sometime around the year 1819, ever since then we have been in cognizance of the effects of caffeine.
